CES 2013: A TV Dominant Event

As expected, this CES was also dominated by the TV category only with every brand like Samsung, lg,, Sony, Panasonic focusing widely on their tv's only.  No doubt that there were some other launches like Sony Xperia Z, Bendable smartphone from Samsung, Vizio android tablet but they seem to have faded out in the light of TV launches like 4k oled from Sony/panasonic, ultra HDTV from Samsung and lg, Curve oled from lg and samsung.

Lets go through a quick round of major tv launches:-

a) 4K OLED TV:- The launch of 4k oled tv from Sony and panasonic was one of my favourite launches at the event. The buzz was already there before the start of CES about the Sony 4K OLED but Panasonic surprised everyone by launching the 4k oled tv. The price of 4k oled tv is abit of concern as per now but looking at the specs, one would say that it's worth the price. We know the amazing picture quality of oled tv's and now watching the same contents on a 4K oled would be a amazing experience. Though it may take a year time in getting these TV released but it would remain in the hearts of everyone who have seen this TV.

b) Curve OLED TV:-The curve oled was the biggest surprise of the event as it came out from nowhere. Samsung launched the world's first curve oled tv followed by it's rival lg. Lg is also potraiting its 55 inch WRGB as the  world's first curved tv that has cinema 3D support. Neither of the brands revealed any info about their curve oleds so we don't have much info on the same, but the prices are expected to be somewhere 10,000$

c)85" Ultra HDTV:- The launch of 85" ultra hdtv made samsung as the manufacturer of the world's largest ultra hdtv defeating lg and Sony just by 1 inch. Samsung also announced about the expected launch of it's 100 inch ultra hdtv somewhere around this year.

Though there were many other big launches at the CES in the display category but these three launches were the one that became the most talked launch.

Apple Television: Real or Myth?

With the CES 2013 just on the doors, the buzz about the so much talked Apple TV's is back. There are some rumors that Apple is testing some TV design making the consumers believe that they can get the apple TV in their rooms pretty soon. Apple isn't ready to reveal anything about their TV's,which are said to come in multiple sizes and said to be a bit expensive than the current Tv's in the market as per now.\

Some tech sites have claimed that the launch of Apple TV's could be somewhere about holiday season for 2013. In a recent interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that " When i go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years" He added that "It's an area of intense interest for our company. I can't say more than that"

The bottom line is that it's just a rumor and there is no official press release from Apple yet. Hope we can hear about this from Apple CEO pretty soon.
Are you going to get Apple TV once it gets released and what's your thought on this. please do share your thoughts here.

4K TV vs OLED TV.

LG and Sony recently launched their 4K TV’s few days back and this has created a benchmark in the display market. The launch of 4k TV’s may fade away the much awaited OLED TV. We have seen the 11” OLED TV from Sony that was launched in 2008 but since then we have been waiting for a bigger screen OLED TV. LG and Samsung launched their OLED at CES 2011 and were expected to reach the US market by the mid of 2011 but the low production rates made them to shift their shipping dates.
The launch of 4K TV’s from Sony and LG are really going to affect the market share of OLED TV. Let’s know about both the technologies in a better way.
When it comes on having the best resolution, 4k marks the way with a resolution of 3840 x 2160. The higher resolution results in having the sharp images. OLED TV's have a resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080. OLED TV’s have the best contrast as compared to the 4K TV’s as OLED TV’s use the plasma like technique and are therefore have deeper blacks as compared to 4K which uses the LCD front with LED backlight.  As per many tech review sites, OLED TV’s have the best wide viewing angle.
OLED TV vs 4K TV.

OLED TV’s have a problem related to their life span. They have a relatively lower life span as compared to 4K TV’s. 4K TV uses the LED backlighting, which have been used in the earlier LED TV’s so we can easily conclude that they have better life-span as compared to OLED TV. When it comes to the pricing factor, there is not much difference in them, a 84” 4K TV will cost around 17 lacs  and  a 55” OLED will come at a price of 4-5 lacs.
Coming to a conclusion, I think OLED Tv is the overall winner because of the best contrast/black levels and also have  a better response rate as compared to 4K Tv’s.
